15 Arrested Over Illegal Sand Winning on Kumasi–Accra Expressway Project

Personnel of the National Security in the Ashanti Region have arrested fifteen persons for allegedly engaging in illegal sand winning activities on the Kumasi–Accra Expressway project.

The suspects, all men, were picked up at the Sewua–Donyina–Appiadu area on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during an operation by the security agency.

During the swoop, six trucks and a wheel loader were also seized.

The Assistant Liaison Officer, Mr. Ivan Bilson Yeboah, confirmed the arrest and said the suspects have been transferred to the National Security headquarters in Accra for detention and further interrogation.

According to him, the illegal sand winning activities were hampering progress of work on the important expressway project and had caused damage to portions of the road.

Mr. Yeboah cautioned that National Security will continue to deal decisively with persons whose actions undermine major government projects in the region.

He added that anyone found guilty after investigations will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
