The Ghana Education Service (GES) has successfully concluded this year's Promotion Aptitude Test for over 60,000 teachers across the country.
The three-day exercise, which ended yesterday, was described as smooth and incident-free at all centres nationwide, according to monitoring officers deployed by the Service.
In a statement, GES said this year's promotion is different from previous years because of a major new policy to decouple ranks from office positions.
According to the Service, this policy is aimed at giving more teachers the chance to progress in their career without being limited by the availability of administrative positions.
"By virtue of this policy, the Service will witness a remarkable 1,500% increase in the number of teachers attaining the rank of Director II, and a 340% increase in the number attaining the rank of Director I," the statement said.
The Service added that there will also be substantial increases in the number of teachers advancing to other ranks including Principal Superintendent (PS), Assistant Director II (ADII), Assistant Director I (ADI) and Deputy Director (DD).
GES explained that the move is a paradigm shift and will help recognize professional competence, experience and continued service of teachers.
The statement emphasized that just like last year, deliberate efforts were made to ensure all deserving teachers get the opportunity to move to higher ranks without being constrained by vacancies.
"This is expected to have far-reaching implications for teacher morale and professional motivation," GES noted.
The Service wished all teachers who took part in the exercise the best of luck and thanked officers, invigilators and administrators who helped in the smooth conduct of the test.
